Mimi's Birthday

Mimi turned 95 this week, and in commemoration, I took four of the kids up to the funny little lunch program that her kids plan for her most every year.
She's made it through what might have been her roughest winter yet, health wise, and is doing great as long as she doesn't have to understand what's going on in a conversation at normal tone...

We took some time on our way home to wander around and frequent places not often visited by our rural family. They're always fun to be with and even more fun to introduce to cool things, places and people.

Plowing for 2015

There's always something going on when Tennessee's your friend- he recently bought a couple of tractors and has been deciding which one he's going to keep, and the good thing was that we got to be a proving ground for one of them...
Breaking ground once again (#14 for us) here at the Little House on the High Desert, we'll be bringing plants out of the greenhouse and out into the wild pretty quick...

Happy Mother's Day

Another Troubled Youth Conference at Snowbird

There was lots of green on the hill at Snowbird this year with construction and new ideas all over the place. There's been a change of ownership at the bird for the first time since the place was created over forty years ago under the founder, Dick Bass. I'm always concerned when something that works changes hands after such a long time, but since I have nothing to do with any decision or idea that happens at Snowbird, and since I'm about as low a roller as any who ever finds themselves there, I'll just be glad I can scrape together gas money to attend a conference on the district's dime once a year.

The Macabre of May...

That's a radish, an orange, and a peppercorn. The results? Otherworldly!

Peeking Through the Spider Web

We begin this little experiment as soft, slippery little screamers with little else but that to offer, and as we start cruising along, we get a lot more complex in both output and expectations in what we need and want to become...
Sometimes I look at the sky and see what millions of my ancestors have seen for thousands of years; just that- the sky. I have written many times about the sun, clouds, wind, and stars. But at other times, all I can see is what we do with the absolute least amount of effort and money to make our lives easier and better. The constant trade-offs and cognitive dischords that I see and comply with make my mind ache with the noise, sometimes.

Even in a Hardware Store

Searching through a lumber warehouse, I looked up to see this framed scene. Not bad by any standard.
