2018 End-of-Service Festivalia

A good, long, fairly confusing and conflicting year is what this one has been for me. For the rest of the family, it's been about growth, opportunities caught and developed, places gone to, and the irretrievable march onward of time and loss of some essential, subjective ideal of at least one aspect of youth.

There. How's that for a downer of a review and intro to some solid family-style photos and glad memories?

Coming Toward the You'll Tide

Getting things done, hanging out, working on aggravating each other, critiquing other's excessive excesses, and keeping the family flame burning like a klieglight is the way we roll.

Thanks for Givage 2018

Over the years, I've blathered, pontificated, and inanely commentated on the importance and my appreciation of the Thanksgiving holiday- It's very often pivotal in the movement of seasons at this location in the northern hemisphere, it's essential to the flow of the fall-to-winter holiday season, it's founded in gratitude, slowing down, gathering, community, and family, and it's just plain old good. To hell with politics, here's another photo montage:

A Boon From a True Boon

I've a fantastic friend, one of a few such friends who have remained despite the years, the difficulties encountered by each, in spite of my weaknesses and both minor and, to at least some I'm sure, major assholery. He makes ends meet through the pursuit of passions and helping others get things done and much more hustleage than I have done for a while. Plus, he's just a freaking sweetheart.

Drie and I motored over to Grand Junction to meet him and pick up a paddleboard that he has been reserving for me and allowing me to pay for a wee bit at a time and certainly not at anywhere near full retail value. It was the first time I've seen Rob in a long, long time, and it was a pleasure the like of which  I'll not soon revisit, I'm sure. A sweetheart and a boon to anyone lucky enough to know him.

We got to head back home fair slowly, and on the way, Ray's Tavern and its wondrous road victuals helped us on the way.

Family Fun and Things That Happen Despite Our Objections

Halloween, cutting dead out of the sick tree, a landmark destroyed in the face of progress and civilization, and wind in the yellow grass and rabbit brush. Soon winter will reign and we'll see if we survive to see another spring...

Yellowstone 2018

A most splendid trip to the land of rivers and geysers. I very much love to be with this girl and be with her in these areas.

Still in Flux

Firefighting trainings, yellow on the mountain, and the first snows in the high country.
